At the foot of the thundering Eau Claire
Gorge, our location has served as a camp site for paddlers,
loggers, fishermen, and hunters for over a century.
More recently, the camp has served as a base for: tree
planters, naturalists, ECO tours, hiking, skiing,
snowmobiling, ATV excursions, bird watching and simply
relaxing and getting back to nature.
Buckeye Camp was officially founded in 1946 by Ohio sportsman Mr. E. J.
Rodebaugh. Rody and his is wife
ran the camp until 1960.
Mr. J. Sparks purchased the camp from Mrs. Rodebaugh in the
Fall of 1960. The Sparks family continued operation of
the camp until 1996, when an offer to purchase the business
was accepted by Mrs. Sparks.
On April 1, 1997 the sale of the camp to Beth and Bill
Harris was completed and the new owners moved in and began
preparing the camp for the 1997 season.
Many of the current guests at "Buckeye" have a
long association with the camp and return regularly. It is
common to have as guests, several generations of the same
family. There is a subtle atmosphere about the camp which
appeals to independent spirits, who want to experience and
enjoy "the North" in a personal sense.
